Waters Elementary is one of 70 schools nationally to be awarded the Green Ribbon School award by the US Department of Education.
Awards
2013 - Green Global USA - National Top 10 FInalist
8th Place Nationally, for Green a School Initiative: Waters Elementary, a public elementary school in Chicago, has served as a leader in environmental education for nearly 20 years, particularly through their Ecology Program, which supports a student-run garden, whole-school recycling program, and lunchroom compositing. Using sustainable best practices, Waters hopes to construct a stand-alone classroom in the school’s garden, which would be dedicated to the Ecology Program. In addition to the programmatic advantages of the space, Waters students and other schools in the area would play an integral role in the classroom’s design and construction.
