THE CURRICULUM
The staff at Waters School has shown what true “Best Practice*” believers can achieve. Over ten years of steady commitment, they have turned the school into an extraordinary environment for children, filled with art, books, nature, ideas, writing, music, achievements, and delight. They have energized the parent community, enlisted local artists, planted a beautiful community garden, stewarded eight nearby nature areas, and raised the test scores.
Integrated Curriculum
The Fine Arts Program, technology and environmental studies are used to weave concepts and themes across all subjects for more engaging and holistic instruction.
Experiential Learning
Children learn through hands-on activities and interaction.
Differentiated Learning
K-3 students are assessed three times a year to find their area of challenge in reading. Teachers then form reading groups so the children are learning at their appropriate levels. This type of learning is designed to meet the needs of every child.
THE FINE ARTS
The three Fine Arts teachers at Waters (Visual At, Music, Drama) are a very innovative and passionate group who take art to a whole new level for elementary school students. They use the arts to express world culture and current events. They then work closely with the classroom teachers to create projects that integrate subject matter from the students’ other classes. The Fine Arts are truly used as a learning tool as well as an enrichment program.
Arts integration is embraced in all curriculum areas and students perform curriculum based showcases throughout the year.
An innovative, flexible schedule for the fine arts and technology team allows for team teaching and project-based learning.
