A DAY IN THE LIFE

RIVER’S EDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL 6-8

Here is just a glimpse of what they are up to.

The Rivers Edge Middle School is the name of our 6-8th grade program here at Waters Elementary. Our program consists of five homerooms as well as the rest of the Waters School community. The name Rivers Edge was chosen because of the Chicago River that runs 1 block west of our school and at one time, found its course through the land where our school now stands.

Each one of five main curriculum courses is taught specifically by one teacher, whose specialty is on that subject. The students see these teachers everyday. The subjects are:
Language Arts
Mathemetics
Science
Writing
Social Studies

Besides the general CPS academic curriculum (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Writing), Waters students receive instruction in the following ancillary subjects:

Gym - once a week

Ecology - as an extension to the science curriculum, K-8 students enjoy 3 field trips per year for deeper study of grade-specific environmental subjects. Hands-on learning in this subject also occurs in or outside of class if it is applicable to the science unit being studied.

Art & Technology:
These 4 subjects are all taught as studio-sized half classes (14:1) for more indepth concepting on projects:

Visual Art
Music
Drama
