Waters School Scores a New Gym Floor
Waters Elementary were the recipients of an unexpected windfall in 2014 when Porto and Barrett, the development team behind the new Ravenswood Mariano's, donated a total of $350,000 to neighborhood schools in the 47th Ward.

Waters Named a National Green Ribbon School
Waters Elementary is proud to have been awarded the Green Ribbon by the US Department of Education -- one of only 78 schools nationwide given this honor. The US Department of Education recognized Waters as a highest-performing school that has shown exemplary achievement in environmental impact, health and education. A Green Ribbon School also encourages healthy living for all students, parents and staff through their own vision and plan.

Beloved Catalpa Felled but not Forgotten
Guided by Mr. Leki, a field ecology teacher at nearby Waters Elementary School, neighbors turned their few blocks of riverbank from a vine-tangled dump for drinkers and dope smokers into a haven to stroll and watch the ducks. They plant native grasses and party for the solstice. They love each others trees, and Mr. Leki's loss was communal. Read more.
