The safety of your children is always our top priority, which is why we must inform you of an incident that occurred near our school. Yesterday afternoon, students who attend a nearby school reported being followed by a car. The students are safe, and the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and CPS Office of Safety and Security are aware and investigating this incident. No students or staff were harmed as a result of this incident.
We will have conversations with students about the importance of being attentive and alert while walking to and from school. We encourage you to also remind your children of the following guidance that we are providing to our students:
- Students are encouraged to travel together in pairs whenever possible.
- If a student feels uncomfortable or threatened in any way, they should go to the nearest business or populated area and call for help.
- While having a phone can help in a crisis, students should use phones with good judgment and be aware of their surroundings.
- Students should report any suspicious vehicles, persons, or behavior to the school immediately so that we can investigate with the support of the CPD.
As always, we remain committed to providing our students with a safe and positive learning environment where they can reach their full potential. Please do not hesitate to call the school directly if you have any questions or concerns.
