Wednesday June 8 – Waters Grounds
Waters is hosting a Biodiversity Day and Bioblitz on our school grounds. A Bioblitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time. At the event, students, teachers, parents, and local naturalists work together to get an overall count of the plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms that live in a specific place. One of the goals of the Bioblitz is to increase our awareness of how important biodiversity is, even in our urban environment! A US Forest Service Bioblitz grant is funding materials for the ecology program. We will be using the iNaturalist website and mobile app to record and report our findings.
Here's a video of a Schoolyard Bioblitz.
