Regional Science Fair Judges Needed

12/13/2015

Our regional science fair needs judges! Whether or not you were able to judge at our school fair, this would be a great opportunity to participate in the next level of Science Fair. We had a record number of judges this year and it would be great if we could help our regional fair do the same. The regional science fair will be held at Truman College on February 5, 2016 starting at 8:30 am.

Please use this link for more specific information and to sign up and contact Mrs. Ballasch with questions.

Carbon Monoxide Update

12/13/2015

Due to the recent press about CO poisoning in CPS schools, Principal Crespo offered this info to address parent concerns (Q & A covered at recent LSC meeting):

Q1. Where are the carbon monoxide detectors located?
A1. One on each (3) floors, in addition, one in gym, one in annex, one in boiler room

Q2. What is the plan if the alarms sound?
A2. Evacuate immediately, pull fire alarm, first responders move in, we walk to nearest neighborhood school.

Q3. When was the last time the boiler was inspected?
A3. Summer inspection, we receive a certificate each year for boiler inspection.

Q4. Are the teachers educated in the symptoms of CO poisoning & what to do?
A4. Yes, if the alarms sound, we evacuate immediately.

Q5. Who will replace the batteries and how often?
A5. Engineer replaces batteries every 6 months, and inspects the detecters every month per Mrs. Crespo’s request.

Q6. Who will shut off the boiler (or whatever is necessary) if the part-time engineer is not on the premises when the alarm sounds?
A6.  First responders will address boilers upon arrival.

Book Fair Success Brings More Books to Waters

12/13/2015

Did you know that the Scholastic Book Fair is actually a fundraiser for our school? Thanks to all of you we sold over $12,000 in books and other items which translates into 6,000 Scholastic Dollars back to Waters to purchase books for classroom libraries! This could not have been possible without all our tremendous volunteers - thank you so much. And a special shout out and extra thank you to our book fair organizers: Denise and Robert Sebanc. Look for the popular Buy One Get One Free Book Fair in the Spring, just in time for Summer reading.
