Another exciting Local School Council Meeting

11/26/2019

Thank you to every who came out last night to our LSC meeting! Some good news out of the meeting: We are on track to be certified as a 100% Healthy School status and, even better, our school has once again been rated a Level 1+! Congratulations to the staff and to Ms Kipp for all the hard work that went into reaching these levels.

We learned about some of the very impressive things going on at Roosevelt High School, including one of only three dual language programs out of all the high schools in the city. It was a really great presentation and we will get it up on the website as soon as we can. Look for information at school regarding future open houses at Roosevelt.

And finally, thanks to Alex Enarson for his presentation on our upcoming nature playspace. He has a vision for a communal space where kids of all ages can engage in activities range anywhere from hanging out to balancing and climbing, or even putting on dance performances with friends. A playspace like this will integrate beautifully with our existing garden and provide a much needed playspace given the loss of our playground. Below are a few conceptual drawings to give a sense of what we could expect. We are targeting this playspace being available sometime in the spring.

Waters Yearbook Club is having a contest for the cover of our yearbook this year. All students are able to participate in the contest.

The theme for this year is “Chicago”

Here are the requirements:

  • An original image that goes with the theme “Chicago”. Think about what YOU love about Chicago? You can draw something from the neighborhood or your favorite part of the city. Be creative!
  • Must say “2019-2020” legibly
  • Must say “Waters Elementary School”, clearly and legibly
  • You can make it on white printer paper or digitally, but either way, your design must be clear to be accepted. Keep in mind that it may only be printed in black and white or one other color. (your uploaded file MUST BE 19 inches x 12.5 inches at 300 dpi or 5700 pixels x 3750 pixels.  Custom cover files can be: BMP, GIF, JPG, PDF, or PNG)
  • No pre-created images, only what you made. You could base your drawing on an image you found, but don't copy it exactly.
  • Your design needs to be turned in or emailed to Ms. Hooper (room 310) or Ms. Aguilar (room 305) no later than Monday, November 25th.
