THURSDAY, DECEMBER 3
Judging:
Waters Gym – 8:45-10:30 a.m. and 1:00-2:15 p.m.

We need judges to make this event a success for the students and allow them to advance! Each student needs to be judged by 3 different judges to qualify for the City Science Fair. Please consider volunteering. If you would like to judge, or know someone who would, we would love to have you! Judging sessions are in the morning and again in the afternoon. Judges can evaluate a few projects or many depending on the amount of time you have. Please sign up to volunteer or contact Peggy Ballasch if you need more information.

Viewing:
Waters Gym – 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00-2:30 p.m.

The Middle School Science Fair (6-8th grades) will be held on Thursday, December 3 in the Waters School Gymnasium. Please come out and help us celebrate our young scientists!

$430 Raised through Angelo's Fundraiser

11/29/2015

A big thanks to Angelo's Wine Bar for hosting a "dine for dollars" fundraiser for our Sports Program and to all of the members of the community who dined and supported Waters. There was a great turnout  and $430.00 total was raised. Angelo's would like to repeat this in the Spring so stay tuned!

CPS Funding Crisis Action Alert

11/29/2015

As noted in last week's letter from Principal Crespo and the press release by CPS, our city's public schools are facing a major funding crisis.  A budget meeting between IL governor and legislative leaders is scheduled for December 1st, so there's still time to contact elected officials to voice your concerns.  In addition, State Representative Ann Williams and her Neighborhood School Advocacy Council will be hosting a community discussion on the CPS funding crisis on Thursday, December 3rd from 7-8pm at Audubon Elementary (RSVP here).

Good Things are Growing At Waters!

11/29/2015

The winter solstice may be drawing near, but that doesn't mean we can't be doing garden work! Tell your friends, family, and neighbors about this project for the Waters' school and community garden at SeedMoney.org. The goal is to identify new donors to support the garden and ecology program through crowdsourcing, so please share this project via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email or whatever platforms you frequent.  Our project was the first to meet its fundraising goal of $400, which qualifies us for a $400 matching grant!  The project with the most donors by 12/16 wins another $600 challenge grant, so please help spread the word!

Toy Drive This Week

11/29/2015

In lieu of a goodie tree at the Craft Market this year, we are doing a toy drive to benefit the Lincoln Square Friendship Center. The mission of the Friendship Center is to "provide hope and dignity in our community through access to food, vital resources, and critical social services."  Please bring in new or like-new toys and books any day this week, or on Saturday at the Craft Market, and leave them in the designated box by the fish tank!

The New Green Notes Blog Format

11/28/2015

We've adopted a new blog post format to get news out to the community more quickly! All Green Notes posts/articles will be available on the school website and will automatically get pushed out to the Waters Community Facebook pages and via our Twitter account. You can also sign up for the RSS feed. A round up of these posts will continue to be emailed out weekly but now you don't have to wait until Sunday night to get the school news. Always check the website for the latest and greatest.

This also means that it's never too late to submit an article - if it doesn't make it in the Green Notes email newsletter, your article can still be made available via the school website and social media.
