WatersToday funds the Ecology program, half the music program, organizes volunteers for school activities and much more. Join us at our public meeting this Thursday in the Annex at 6:00 p.m. ![]() GoCPS Guides and Application Instructions Online GoCPS step-by-step instructions (English & Spanish) on how to complete the application for all CPS or Charter high schools and CPS elementary schools (including neighborhood, academic centers, gifted, magnet, etc.) are available for download from Waters' Virtual Backpack. Montrose, is hosting a high school fair for 6th to 8th grade students and families. Parochial, private and public high schools will be represented including Amundsen, ChiArts, Disney II, St. Patrick's, DePaul College Prep, Bennett Day School, Lincoln Park, Jones, Senn, Loyola, Notre Dame, Alcott STEAM, St. Ignatius, Lakeview and GCE Lab. Questions, email Kim Smith. ![]() Cross Country City Championships Saturday, October 28 – Washington Park starting at 11:25 a.m. Congratulations to the Waters Cross Country team on a successful season! While the team didn't qualify, every runner demonstrated so much improvement from the beginning of the season to the last meet. The City Championships meet will take place on Saturday, October 28, at Washington Park, 5700 S. Russell Drive. The schedule is as follows: 11:25 a.m. Girls 5/6th 1 Mile 11:40 a.m. Boys 5/6th 1 Mile 12:20 p.m. Boys 7/8th 1.5 Miles Please come to cheer on our runners! ![]() Mighty Acorns Volunteer Workshops Monday, October 23 – Conference Room 8:15-9:15 a.m. Mr. Leki invites you to a workshop that explains the role volunteers play in guiding groups of children through wild places. He will explain the basic structure of a Mighty Acorns adventure and how the volunteer's role fits so snugly with our school's vision of a learning community. This invitation is especially intended for the new 3rd grade cohort, but all are invited to attend. Coffee and tea will be provided. Questions, email Mr. Leki. ![]() Papel Picado Workshop Friday, October 27 – Art Room 3:30-4:30 p.m. Families are invited to create handmade papel picado for our upcoming Día de los Muertos Pop-Up Gallery and Parent Ofrenda. All students, kindergarten through eighth grade, are invited to attend with their parents. This is a free activity to experience a beloved Waters School tradition and make a folk art favorite from Mexico. GROWCommunity presents upcoming Open Houses at Amundsen High School and Lake View High School and other fall activities at these high schools. Northcenter High School Fair Thursday, October 12 – Lake View High School 4:30-7:30 p.m. (Limited lot parking. Street parking available. Public transportation use is encouraged.) Visit with area Chicago public and private high schools regarding high school admission for the 2018-2019 school year. A great chance to speak directly with representatives from your child’s future school. This is a great opportunity to visit Lake View High School, 4015 N. Ashland. Plus both Amundsen and Lake View are exhibitors. Contact your school counselor for more information. GROWCommunity Neighborhood High Schools Community Gardens Event Saturday, October 21 – Lake View High School 9:30-11:30 a.m., Amundsen High School 1:00-3:00 p.m. Get involved with your neighborhood school community and learn more about your local high schools. We’ll be planning and planting small community gardens at both high schools. Kids of all ages and families welcome. Apple cider, treats and free fall activities! RSVP appreciated, but not required. Find out more. ![]() Harvest Day Volunteer Sign-up is Open Friday, October 27 – Waters Garden and Patio 8:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Harvest Day volunteers are needed! On Friday, October 27, kindergarten through 2nd grade heads to the garden for this fun annual event, with 3rd graders visiting the petting zoo only. We're looking for volunteers to help with setup and cleanup, face painting, potato roasting, and walking through the garden and petting zoo with the students. Sign up to volunteer!
