A Conversation with Amundsen Principal Pavichevich
Tuesday, June 5 – 3:30 p.m. Waters
Join Principal Kipp and Amundsen High School Principal, Anna Pavichevich, to learn more about the expansion of their current Interbaccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) to a 'wall to wall' IB. AHS is the designated neighborhood high school for the majority of Waters students and welcomes all of our students through the GROWCommunity initiative. This fall, AHS was upgraded to a level 1+ school, the highest rating in CPS. Parents from any grade may attend.

Thank you for another opportunity to serve the Waters community with our Right At School programs! We are looking forward to the 2018-2019 school year and are providing current and future families the opportunity to register early for next year’s Right Club programs. Registration is open and an early bird registration fee of only $15 per family (a $75 discount) is offered if you register by June 15. Questions, please contact Chris Dino.

Friday, June 8 – Waters School 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

It's that time of the year again – Fun and Field Day! Field Day is a great way to celebrate the end of the school year. It is a time when students can let loose and have fun with all their friends. Mr. Kurz is hard at work putting together a day that will not disappoint! This year's schedule is:
  • K-2nd Grade – 8:45-10:15 a.m.
  • 6th-8th Grade – 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
  • 3rd-5th Grade – 12:45-2:15 p.m.

In order for this day to be a success, we need your help! If you are able to volunteer please sign up! Questions, please contact Sandi Barlow.

You are cordially invited to participate in upcoming events at Von Steuben Metropolitan Science Center, 5039 N. Kimball Ave. These
opportunities are offered for prospective students and families to visit and see all that Von has to offer. 

Shadows Days – Wednesday, June 6; Wednesday, June 13
Shadow Days are for rising 7th and 8th graders. Students are matched with a Von student to follow their class schedule. You must register to participate: Shadow Days Registration (also at vonsteuben.org under Apply)

Summer Engineering Camps
Summer Camps are for rising 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. We will offer two camps this summer: Introduction to Engineering and Robotics Competition (known as FREAT) Camp fee is $20 and limited to 20 students each. Click the link for details: Von Summer Engineering Camps

Summer Sports Camps at Von
Von Panthers are competitive athletes. Come meet some of our players and coaches during one of our sports camps this summer. Check out the Von website for details.

CAPE Program Showcase
Drama: Monday, May 21 – Gym 4:40 p.m.
Other CAPE Classes: Tuesday, May 22 – Gym 4:00 p.m.

You are all invited to attend the final event for all CAPE (Chicago Arts Partners in Education) programs this week. On Monday, May 21, students in the Drama program will present their work. On Tuesday, May 22, the rest of the programs will have presentations. The Drama show on Monday begins at 4:30 p.m. and the show on Tuesday begins at 4:00 p.m., both in the gym. The students have worked hard all year on costumes, movies, photography and more, and are very excited to show off their hard work. See you there!

Redwood Literacy Summer Offerings
July 9 - August 16 – Rogers Park

Redwood Literacy is offering small-group morning and afternoon literacy camps in the Rogers Park area this summer. Camps are designed for any 1st through 8th grade student who has dyslexia, dysgraphia, or general literacy struggles that negatively impact their learning or self-confidence. Waters Family Literacy Night
Wednesday, May 23 – Waters School and Garden 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Bring the whole family for fun at Waters Literacy Night. Teachers at Waters have been busy planning a fun evening. Here are some of the details:
  • Chicago Public Library will be here to share a Silly Story Time and inform you of the Summer Reading Challenge.
  • Are you a poet? Bring a poem you have written and share them at our Poetry Slam!  
  • The Scholastic Book Fair will be open to purchase summer reading.  
  • Garden Night Special: Mr. Leki and Ms. Peterson will have books in the garden. Read outside in the lovely school garden and learn how to get involved with Garden Night. 
  • Check out Brain Pop and Myon!
  • Design and make your own bookmark!
  • Join Ms. Johnson for an amazing story time with dancing and drums!
