RIGHT AT SCHOOL SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION IS OPEN
Planning for summer activities while school is out? Check out the Right At School 2016 Summer Camp at Waters! We will be right here in Waters School all summer long for the full day (with extended care available), offering a variety of fun activities for grades K-8, such as sports and games, arts and crafts, science, water activities, swimming, and fun field trips such as Maggie Daley Park.

COMMON CORE ASSESSMENT: TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) will be administered in two segments, beginning with 3 units of English Language Arts (ELA) (up to 90 minutes per unit), and 4 units of Math (up to 60 minutes per unit). Grades 3-4 will take the paper version of the test on March 29, 30, 31 (ELA) and April 11, 12, 14, and 15 (Math). Grades 5-8 will take the online version of PARCC: ELA on April 5, 6 ,and 7 and Math on April 26, 27, 28 and 29.
The test will be administered in the morning, with make-ups in the afternoon. We ask that ALL students arrive on time to school at 8:15 a.m. Late arrivals will not be permitted entry into the homeroom and will have to make up their testing in the afternoon. Last week's Math Festival / Pi Day evening event was a big hit! Thank you to all the staff , teachers and parent volunteers who helped organize and run the event and for those (including Principal Crespo!) who volunteered for the messiest of all activities – pie in the face! Special thanks to Mr. Gil for leading the charge and to Ms. Alvarez and those busy 8th graders who all worked so hard. $1180 was raised towards the 8th grade trip. Family and student participation was incredible - thank you to all who attended.
LSC CANDIDATE FORUM
Wednesday, March 30 – Waters Annex 6:30 p.m.
Waters will be hosting an LSC Candidate Forum on Wednesday, March 30th at 6:30pm to give the community an opportunity to meet the candidates and hear their ideas for the LSC. We have eight candidates for parent representative, 3 candidates for community representative, 2 candidates for teacher representative, and 1 candidate for non-teacher staff representative. The election will take place at Waters on Wednesday, April 13th, on parent-teacher conference day.
FUND RAISING FOR EIGHTH GRADE TRIP TO WASHINGTON D.C.
The 8th Grade trip to D.C. has been wonderful Waters tradition for over 20 years. 8th grade students raise funds through activities such as Pi Day, Big Fork orders, school dances and curriculum night childcare to help offset trip costs – thank you to all who have participated in these activities. We are hoping that at least 35 of our 8th graders will be able to visit D.C. this Spring. We can always use more help fundraising for these trips each year. Let us know if you can help out or if you have ideas!
SPECIAL PERFORMANCE LAST WEEK

Emerald City Theatre performed Magic Tree House: A Night in New Orleans for CPS students this past Friday. It was streamed via the EdReach Network YouTube channel as a live broadcast into Room 203 at Waters. Our 2nd graders gathered to watch this wonderful play which touched on important themes: music, history and segregation.
Thank you to Ms. Beth Czechanski for sharing this information with our 2nd grade teachers and Ms. Nunez-Johnson for organizing the event in her classroom. Thank you to Emerald City Theatre and author Mary Pope Osborne, for the performance and for giving away free Magic Tree House books to all CPS 2nd graders.

Have a talent you'd like to share? Or yearning to get onstage? The Waters Annual Variety Show is here. Audition forms went home in folders last week and are due to Ms. Garcia in Room 313 by Monday March 21. Auditions will be Monday, April 11 and Tuesday, April 12 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. each day. Students should come prepared to the auditions as if they were performing their routine for a live audience including music, props, costume, etc.
The Variety Show is student driven so practice is on their own time. There will be one official stage rehearsal to run through the program the day before the official show. If your child is auditioning and is selected, please be sure to continue practicing and perfecting the routine.

Organizing and fundraising for kindergarten teacher's aides the last couple of years has become necessary due to large kinder class sizes. With an aim to plan ahead ahead for kinder aides next year, a few current Waters parents (who also have incoming kinder students) are organizing a community meeting to foster constructive feedback and productive discussions.
Everyone is welcome. Current first grade parents and kinder parents may have some great thoughts to share. We'd also love to hear from parents of incoming kinder students and parents from any other grades who are interested in participating.
