
![]() This weekend, Waters’ volunteers organized a school and community garden-planning event at Waters. This event included prescribed burn training, a Riverbank Neighbors meeting, a performance of The Legend of Snake and Turtle, a wonderful potluck lunch, and a seed exchange. Thanks to Carolyn Dean, Julie Peterson, Pete and Debbie Leki, and all the dedicated garden and ecology volunteers! And thanks to all who donated any amount for a garden t-shirt, all the proceeds went to WatersToday.
![]() There was a huge crowd Friday night for the Waters Elementary trivia fundraiser. We had 11 teams total! Many thanks to Sandi Barlow Stone for pulling it all together and Sandy and Sarah Weisz for running the fun and tricky questions part of the program. And thanks to all who joined us for helping support our school! ![]() RAISING FUNDS FOR WATERS WatersToday – All Year Waters Parents: Now is the perfect time to make your pledge to the Annual Give campaign OR to increase the amount you have already pledged. As you have read, Waters has had to use every penny of the school’s funds to keep teachers in the classroom for the remainder of this school year. This means that WatersToday – our parent-run fundraising and volunteer group – will be asked to help. Now is the time to build up our fundraising account – to increase it well above our $200,000 goal! We need that $200,000 to maintain what we have always funded – Ecology, Music, Recess support and Sports. Now we will need more. Be sure to ask your employer if they will match it! ![]() LOST AND FOUND CLAIM DISPLAY Monday, February 29 through Wednesday, March 2 – Lunchtime and After School Starting at lunchtime this Monday until Wednesday after lunch, recent Lost and Found items will be displayed on tables near the lunchroom. Remind your children to glance over the items as they leave the lunchroom and to claim any belongings. Parents can look over the lost and found items after school on Monday and Tuesday. ![]() STATE OF CPS FORUM Wednesday, March 9 – Coonley Elementary 7:00 p.m. Join our panel of elected officials, budget experts and stakeholders representing CTU, CPS and more for a frank discussion about where we are as a district and ideas and opinions on how we can rescue our schools. Hear what these stakeholders have to say and have your questions answered during our moderated Q&A. Walk away with important information about CPS district wide and advocacy that you can do on behalf of your children, your school and your city. More details on the web and this flyer. ![]() CPS recently announced revised graduation requirements for high school students starting next year, including a new computer science requirement and changes to the arts education and civics/service learning requirements. More information can be found in the press release (English, Spanish). ![]() GIRLS ON THE RUN Starts Wednesday, March 2 Girls On The Run practices start this Wednesday. Weekly practices are on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:30-4:45 p.m. Have your girl wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes, and be sure to pack a snack. Parents please pick up promptly at 4:45 p.m. ![]() INSIDE (OUT)SIDERS 2016: EXPLORING OUTSIDER ARTISTS DonorsChoose.org – Through Tuesday, March 1 Please help our wonderful art program have the supplies they need. In return, you'll get awesome photos of your gift in action and the artists' heartfelt thanks. ![]() 2016 LOCAL SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTION Applications Due Friday, March 4 – School Office 3:00 p.m. Parents and community members will have the opportunity to run and vote for up to 5 candidates for 8 positions on Waters school's LSC (6 parent members and 2 community members) and school staff will have the opportunity to run and vote for up to 2 candidates for 3 positions on the LSC (2 teacher members and 1 non-teacher staff member). This letter details all of the required candidate forms and important dates. Forms (available in the office and online) are due to the school on March 4, by 3:00 p.m. The 2016 Local School Council Election will be held on Spring Parent-Teacher Conference Day, Wednesday, April 13. ![]() SEED SWAP and GARDEN PLANNING EVENT Saturday February 27 – 12:30-2:00 p.m. Mark your calendars for this upcoming community-building event in the Waters annex!
