WatersToday PUBLIC BOARD MEETING
Thursday, February 4 – Annex 6:30 p.m.
Wondering about WatersToday? Thinking about how to support Waters School? Join the WatersToday Board this Thursday in the Waters Annex from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.for our second public meeting of the school year. We'll be discussing: bylaws, our annual Big Night event, fundraising updates and new activities and much more. Everyone is welcome.

BOTTLES & CANS FUNDRAISER
February 1 – April 30
Bottles & Cans - a great local beer and wine store located at 4109 N Lincoln Ave - will donate 10% of any purchase you make to benefit Waters Elementary school. Just mention Waters whenever you make a purchase and tell your friends and family to do the same! The Bottles and Cans fundraiser starts Monday, February 1 and lasts through April 30. CHINESE NEW YEAR PARADE and KINETIC ART EXHIBIT
Friday, February 12 – 8:30 a.m.
2016 is the Year of the Fire Monkey! On February 12th in the Waters School main lobby, please join K-2nd grade students as they sweep away the bad luck and ring in a new year! All students are encouraged to wear RED as a part of our annual celebration!

Vincent van Gogh is coming to Chicago!

'VAN GOGH'S BEDROOMS' EXHIBIT AT THE ART INSTITUTE
Opens Sunday, February 14
We love Vincent van Gogh in the art room! We find his use of color, line and texture very inspiring. Last semester, we enjoyed studying the work he created while in France and his influence on Expressionist artists of the early 20th century.

Van Gogh's Bedrooms is a new exhibit opening this month at The Art Institute of Chicago! Over 36 artworks will be featured by Vincent van Gogh in the show. If you have an opportunity to check out the exhibit, please stop by the art room and share it with us!

Feed the Fish!

GOFUNDME CAMPAIGN ESTABLISHED FOR WATERS FISH TANK
Parents have asked how they can donate to help maintain the wonderful fish tank in the main lobby. Supplies are costly because it's a large 75 gallon tank. Fish tank volunteer Carolyn Dean worked with WatersToday treasurer Rick Bolliger to set up the Waters Fish Fund through gofundme.com. If you want to support Carolyn's efforts and offset her expenses, please consider donating to the fund!

Grow Your Child's Classroom Library

Orders Due This Week
For every Scholastic book order placed through your child's teacher, credits are earned for free books that are used to supplement each classroom's library. The latest Scholastic order form is due later this week. Contact your child's teacher or classroom parent for more information.

MATH TRAILBLAZERS 'PARENT UNIVERSITY' REPORT
Last week, Waters' parents were fortunate to have the opportunity to hear from Jennifer Leimberer, a member of the Math Trailblazers author team, on how our math curriculum is designed and implemented. She gave some great 'in class" examples of how multiple strategies can be used to solve problems and provided a number of tips for parents working with their children on math at home. CROWDSOURCING GRANT FOR WATERS GARDEN FUNDED
Thanks to all who donated and shared this SeedMoney crowdsourcing project via social media and other outlets in late 2015. With 115 supporters, we raised nearly $3200, mostly from $10-20 donations. In addition, we were awarded a $400 challenge grant for being the first project to reach our fundraising goal. Special thanks to Carolyn Dean for spearheading this project!

Network Science Fair at Truman College

JUDGES NEEDED FOR NETWORK SCIENCE FAIR
Please help judge at our Network Science Fair! We had a wonderful number of volunteers judge at our school fair in December. Please help us to do the same for our Network Fair at Truman College on February 5, 2016. This is a great opportunity to see our students as well as the greater community's students at their best!
