We are off to a great start this year! Our staff and students are actively engaged in learning together.
Thank you Karen Nevotti and Kelli Greene for organizing our Back to School Social! This event was a great opportunity for families to meet one another after school and to learn how to get involved in the many volunteer activities available at Waters.
At the Local School Council meeting last week, our community and board members had an opportunity to meet new Waters staff and learn about some curriculum updates.
- We heard from our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) committee which presented work that our students will engage in this year through a new partnership with Columbia College and Scientists for Tomorrow. Students will learn about alternate energy and robotics. We are very excited about this new initiative and how it ties into our Continuous Improvement Work Plan.
- Ms. Ballasch shared information on Exhibition of Student STEM Research, formerly known as the Science Fair. We look forward to a variety of student work inclusive of science, technology, engineering, art and math at this year's exhibition.
- Ms. Herman presented the Digital Media essentials program and what the students will be learning this year.
- Mr. Raman shared about a possible arts engaged community activity titled We All Live Here. This will be a school community arts activity that is a direct response to the recent negative behaviors that were exhibited in our school community a few weeks ago.
Thank you to all for your patience and kind words this week. Safety is a top priority and we take this responsibility seriously. On Thursday, we sent a robotic call and email informing you of an incident that had occurred in the neighborhood. I felt the incident was serious and I wanted to ensure all of our children's safety. I also wanted to provide a safe place for children to wait until you could pick them up. Please note: If you did not receive a phone call or an email, please provide updated phone and email information on the emergency form in the packet that was recently sent home. It is imperative that we have current contact information on our central office system in the event of an emergency. And don't forget, the school forms are due today.
Have a great week!
Ms. Crespo
