Many of you probably heard about the budget cuts that Central Office distributed to each school in our district this week. Waters received a budget “adjustment” of -$46,752.08. In order to clear this negative, we had to use money that was allocated for new Literacy and Math textbooks to balance the budget. While this is a large amount, we are thankful that it did not impact our staffing or delivery of our programs.
After this round of budget cuts, we have a balance of $19,996.65 left for curriculum purchases. This means there will be a delay in purchasing common core aligned literacy textbooks and curriculum for all grade levels. So, yes, unfortunately there is a direct impact on our classrooms. Sadly, it is much worse at other schools with less involved parent communities and fundraising efforts. We are so grateful for the volunteers and resources provided by our partner organization, WatersToday.
If you feel inclined, please contact CPS central office, your city and state representatives, and the Governor’s Office to let them know how this is impacting your children. We will provide updates as we know more.
