Week 20 Blog

1/31/2019

Dear Waters Community,

Thank you for your patience this week during the deep freeze!  I do hope that all families were home safe and warm during these very chilly days.  Remember, there is no school tomorrow due to a professional development day for our staff.

The first semester Art Exhibit was just phenomenal!  Thank you, Mrs. Vecchioni for your artistic vision and to the many volunteers who helped to set the stage for the show.  Who would have thought that our stage could be an Infinity Room?” And to hear the excitement in kinder students voices when they told me they were going to an Obliteration experience!   It was wonderful to see so many families participate in the various learning experiences during the show.

The student leadership team is preparing for the upcoming Valentine’s dance.  The Photo Booth will return with an opportunity for making photo memories! We will have a photo booth on Valentine’s day, February 14 and the dance will be held on Friday, February 15.  Photo booth will be $5.00 per photo. This is a fundraiser for our middle school students to help reduce the cost of their annual school trip to St. Louis. The students appreciate your support!

Please join us on Monday, February 4 at 6:30 pm for an update on our school addition.  The Facilities and Grounds LSC subcommittee will be sharing some updates on the addition.

Looking forward to seeing all the children on Monday!

Last week of January

1/24/2019

Dear Waters Community,

As the temperatures begin to drop, I would encourage all students to dress for the weather.
CPS rarely closes school, this is a district decision, never a local one, so please make sure your child(ren) are bundled up.

Our second quarter is coming to a close and report cards will be going home soon.  If you haven’t done so already, please be sure to check Parent Portal to see how your child is progressing academically.  If you have questions or concerns, please be sure to reach out to your child’s teacher(s). Student success is everyone’s goal at Waters.

The first semester Visual Art Exhibit is tomorrow Friday, January 25th,  immediately following dismissal. The exhibit will be open from 3:15 pm - 5:00 pm.  The show will encompass K-8 student artwork. The theme for the show is “Our Stories: In Patterns, Symbols, Motifs and Glyphs”  inspired by Yayoi Kusama. We look forward to seeing you there!

Please note that February 1st is a School Improvement Day and there is no school for students.

Our lost and found is overflowing with hats, mittens, scarves, and even some boots.  The Lost and Found will be open for pick up tomorrow during the exhibit. Items have been posted on Facebook for over a week.   If your child is missing an item, have them check the lost and found. After this week all items will be donated to the local shelter.

Sincerely,

Ms. Titia Kipp
Principal

Week 17 Blog

Dear Waters School Community;

Welcome to 2019!   We look forward to continued learning opportunities during the second half of our school year.

Thank you to our school families who donated to our Winter Wonderland Dance and Photo Booth!  The Leadership Team ( a group of middle school students) helped to organize this event and others to increase financial support to ensure that all 8th graders will have the opportunity to attend the 8th grade class trip to St. Louis.  We raised just over $2500!!! Thank you for your support.

Please be aware that MOY or middle of year MAP assessments are in progress.  You should have received notice from your child’s homeroom teacher for testing dates.  The mid year assessment is used by the staff to analyze whether your child is on track to making their personal growth goal.  Please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher should you have any questions about your child’s progress.

Thank you for attending our LSC meeting on Tuesday.  Members of our ILT(Instructional Leadership Team) presented a 15 week report on the progress we are making regarding our CIWP( Continuous Improvement Work Plan) If you were unable to attend the meeting, feel free to check out the presentation on the school website.

One area of concern regarding our SQRP and our CIWP is attendance.  Attendance is mandatory for students in grades K-12. We are closely monitoring late arrivals, early dismissals and absences.

The first semester Visual Art Exhibit is Friday, January 25th  immediately following dismissal. The opening will be from 3:15 pm - 5:00 pm.  This show encompasses all K-8 student artwork. The theme for the show is “Our Stories: In Patterns, Symbols, Motifs and Glyphs”  inspired by Yayoi Kusama. The first floor is slowly transforming into an art gallery. Thank you to all the parents for helping to install the show.  A special shout out to Clayton Miller! If there are any parents available to help out during the opening on Friday after school, please email Ms. Vecchioni at alvecchioni@cps.edu.

Basketball season began this week.  Our athletes have been practicing and are excited to be competing!   Please visit the school calendar to see the schedule for games. As a safety and security measure, all students attending the games must be accompanied by an adult.

This week we have had visitors from various parties responsible for the development of the school addition.  Next week they will be drilling for geo samples on the north side of the building where the structure is slated to be erected.  I have coordinated with our RAS team to ensure safety of our students during recess. Please keep a close eye on your children before and after school regarding the big playground in the northeast corner of the school lot.  If you see tape around it, please explain to your children that they are not to enter the area. This is a working zone. Thank you for your assistance in helping keep the children safe.

Please note that February 1st is a Teacher Development day and there is no school for students.
Please mark your calendar for March 9th for our Annual Big Night Fundraiser!
