and the garden is going to sleep,
and the holidays gather around us,
and here we are blessed with extra mild days of autumn,
so excruciatingly beautiful they make you want to sing,
stare into the sun,
press your cheek to the ground,
and "to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free."
I get to go into classrooms now,
to reflect on our field trips,
to analyze results,
to teach new songs....
and I get to sit down with coffee and read and respond to field journals.
Would you like to join me?
Each Monday from drop off,
for an hour.
In some ways,
reading and responding to a journal is like
reading and responding to a diary:
exciting,
shocking,
funny, beautiful.
I will explain a bit about journal response,
about how this exercise,
the writing (by kids)
and responding (by us)
has merit,
and a particularly powerful role in education and a child's development.
If you take to it, you are welcome to come back any time to read a few more journals.
Hope to see you this Monday or another,
Mr. Leki
