Looking Ahead, Looking Up

Hey Friends,
Ecology is the study of "how the household works":
the plants and animals, the bacteria and the atmosphere, the oceans and ... us, too.
Our part in the ecology of our planet is huge.
And prospects for improving our behavior took a nose dive last week.
I don't know how many people broke down crying in my arms last Wednesday,
out of despair, and fear.

But then we have this garden,
the new shed,
the kids splitting stumps and building benches,
the hallway walls covered with monarch butterflies and triptych calaveras,
the sounds of drums and music,
the laughter and friendship.
I was looking for a song to sing for the
"Thanks for Giving" celebration tonight at Artango Bar and Steakhouse.
And an old song came to mind that we performed for my daughter's elementary school graduation: the Tevin Campbell/Quincy Jones song "Tomorrow." Natalie, my daughter,  sang it, I played piano, my neighbor played bass and Jimmy Tomasello from Old Town played saxophone. The graduating class sang the chorus. Tonight I will try it once again, with Natalie singing and Mr. Bradford on Sax. (Sure wish I had Quincy Jones to help out). I've attached the link for you to enjoy.

I hope it will take you, for a few minutes, to the world we long for and are working towards.

On Wednesday, November 16, at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., the two 8th grades will be out in the garden finishing their first bench, moving wood chips and splitting stumps for firewood. Please join us to see these great kids at work.

On Friday, November 18, I will be hosting the Recycler's Luncheon in the Conference Room. The Recycling Captains will come for lunch at their regular time, but sit with me and their colleagues to review their work and experiences. We will have pizza, salad, fresh fruit and lemonade. We serve the kids and get to overhear their conversations and thoughts. This is a great experience, and I can use extra hands to prepare the food, fetch the pizzas, serve and of course clean up after. Please let me know if you are available to help. I start prepping at 10:20 a.m. or so.

During much of this week I will be reading Might Acorns journals, finishing the leaf collection paste ups, and teaching classes. Let me know if you would like to join me with the leaf collections or journals.

Many Thanks and
Keep your head to the Sky!

Mr. Leki
