OVERVIEW

WATERS CLOSES TBPK PROGRAM for 2012-13 SCHOOL YEAR
A Note From Principal Crespo:

We are sad to announce that Waters will be closing its TBPK Program at the end of this school year.

Because of our growth, each year we are adding classrooms. This has caused us to move programs in order to accommodate general education classrooms. Due to these space issues and continual growing pains, we have made the very tough decision to close our Tuition-Based Pre-K next year.

We are so sorry to see this program go, as we know it has helped many families allow for a full-time option for their children, but we must ensure that there is room for our future K-8 students.

We have loved watching your kids grow and learn, and hope to see you back at Waters for Kindergarten.

Sincerely,
Ms. Titia Crespo

iPads Are Coming to Waters
Thanks to the grant writing of Waters' technology, 3rd and 4th grade teachers, Waters 3rd and 4th graders will be using iPad2s in their classes in a new program to experience Science through Technology!

Waters Parent Receives Community Award
Congratulations to Waters parent and PTC President Terri Versace, who was one of ten Chicago parents honored by Teach America's Children (TAC) at the "Parent Leadership: Making A Difference in your Community" awards ceremony last Thursday night. Mrs. Versace says she believes the neighborhood school can, and should be, as number one a choice as any gifted or magnet school option. She stressed the importance of communities embracing their own neighborhood schools, and the success that happens when effort, patience, and collaboration between the neighborhood and the administration takes place.

Field Foundation Grants Waters 15K for Music Program!
Waters thanks the Field Foundation of Illinois for accepting our proposal to help sustain our Music Program. Special thanks to teachers Ms. Vecchioni and Ms. Zelle for their insight. And thanks to parents Terri Versace, Julie Moore, Serena Hess, and Christine Weldon for getting it altogether and out the door.

This adds another 15K to our Flower Power thermometer. We still need more, but this helps a ton!

Waters Wins Lowes Grant!
We are pleased to announce that Waters has been awarded a $5,000 grant for our Outdoor Ecology and Art Workspace. This grant will allow us to create a more workable outdoor learning space and seating area on the new patio off of the Annex, as this area serves as a bridge between the school garden and our newly constructed Green Wing. Thank you to parents Kerry Maiorca, Serena Hess, Megan Wade and David Schroeder for their work on this grant.

Rockwell's Raises Money for Waters
Thank you to Rockwell's restaurant
for hosting a Waters Night every Monday through November, and to all the families who came out for dinner to support the school. As a result of these efforts, we raised just over $300 towards a new projector for our computer lab. Because this was shy of our $600 goal, Rockwell's has generously offered to match the monies we raised so we can secure that new projector! Thank you Rockwells!

Waters Receives Computer Donation
Chicago Trading Company has generously donated 12 nearly new computers complete with large flat screen monitors. They are VERY much appreciated and will be put into use in multiple classrooms as soon as the CPS software has been uploaded. A big THANK YOU to CTC - those computers will help us out for years to come!

Waters Wins $25K in National Pepsi Contest!
A dedicated group of parents, teachers, staff and friends of Waters banded together to help us secure a $25,000 Pepsi Refresh grant for the ecology program for the 2010-2011 school year! We are very proud of this accomplishment -- this was a NATIONAL call-for-votes with an intense amount of pressure and competition that literally put us up against THOUSANDS of other ideas from across the U.S.

Parents Are Successful in Bringing Full-Time Music to Waters this Fall
As a part-time program already existed, Waters parents wrote grants and fundraised last year to raise enough money to extend Music to a Full-Time Studio-Based Class, ensuring that all K-8 students get Music as part of their curriculum this year.
