Waters competes in 5 CPS 5-8th grade sports: cross country, basketball, track, soccer, and volleyball. Last year 5/6 Girls Soccer won 3rd in city. This year, we won and went to City in every sport! Congratulations to our Girls 7/8th grade soccer team and Coach Gaytan, who ended their season as City Semi-finalists!
Track team members: 8th grader Gwen Miller finished in 6th place in the 1600, and 6th grader Marisa Morgan placed 5th in the 100-meter sprint. Marisa also competed in the City's Track Semi-finals in the 100-meter dash, advancing to the finals. Great job girls, and Coach Whiteman! The boys 5/6th grade Volleyball team brought home a Network Championship this year, and entered the City Playoffs. Way to go boys, and Coach Orlov! The 5th/6th grade Girls Basketball team made it to the City Semi-finals, ending the season with a 7-2 record. Thanks to all of our coaches and congrats to all our athletes! Way to go Wildcats!
Chess Team Completes Successful Season
Congratulations to the Waters Chess Team and Mr. Prado (their coach) on an outstanding season! Adam Chaparro was the recipient in the 7th/8th grade novice YCFC Outstanding Achievement Award tournament held at Marshall High School. Charlie Wade earned an Honorable Mention Medal fa 4th place tie out of 113 students at a YCFC tournament in February. Charlie and Benito Huertas earned 3rd place team trophies in a Chess Wizards tournament in March. Our team also participated at a YCFC tournament at Air Force Academy in April, where Theo Mairoca, 3rd grade, earned 3rd place overall in the K-4th grade section and our K-4 team brought home the 2nd-place trophy for the event. Our 5th–8th grade team earned a tie for 4th place Results and tournament pictures.

Waters School's Spelling Bee champion, 7th grader Violet Ford, was one of 50 CPS students selected, based on their score from the online spelling and vocabulary test, to advance to the CPS Citywide Spelling Bee in March. Way to go Violet!
